Nicholas McLellan is a a walk-on kicker from Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa. He will redshirt this season and then work to become either the backup kickoff specialist or the backup punter.

In addition to kicking at the prep level, McLellan also played high school soccer. He helped the Maroons to win two straight Iowa state championships. The highlight of his senior season was a fake punt he ran against Waukee.

McLellan also attracted interest from in-state schools such as Iowa and Iowa State, as well as Missouri and USC.

Kohl's Professional Camps ranked him the 90th-best kicker, with a rating of 4.5, and the 62nd-best punter, also with a 4.5. Here's what KCKicking.com had to say about him:

Nicholas is a very intriguing prospect. He has outstanding size and athleticism to excel at BOTH kicking and punting at the next level. His swing is repeatable and fluid. While competing, he makes it look easy. He is one of our TOP (if not the best) combo prospects. He finished the punt preliminary round in 3rd (out of 79) at the 2014 College-Prep Showcase. He is capable of hitting 4.9s/50 yard punts. Also has range from 55+ on FGs.

His KO technique needs some fine adjustments as he needs to produce deeper KOs. His best days are ahead of him. This prospect should land opportunities at the D1 level.
