26 DAYS TO KICKOFF: Cameron Morgan

In which BracketCat counts down the 26th day until kickoff with a profile of defensive back Cameron Morgan.

Cameron Morgan could end up making plays like this if we have a spate of injuries at safety, but I doubt it.

Bio

Position: Safety

Previous College: None

Projection: Third-String

Status: Preferred Walk-On

Cameron Andrew Morgan (b. Nov. 14, 1993) is a preferred walk-on quarterback-turned-safety we plucked out of the state of Nebraska. He attracted interest, although not scholarship offers, from Kansas State, Nebraska and UCLA.

He set the Nebraska Class A state record for most touchdowns in a game in 2009 at six (tied with San Diego's Danny Woodhead) and also took his baseball team to the state championship, playing second base and pitcher.

Morgan totaled 2,332 career rushing yards and 45 touchdowns, while also throwing for 23 career touchdowns. He earned honorable mention all-district honors as a sophomore and junior, and was all-district as a senior.

Morgan redshirted in 2012 and did not see any game action in 2013 or 2014. He is an active volunteer for United Way, Walk for Autism and the American Lung Association who was on the high school honor roll all four years.

I mainly expect Morgan to be on the scout team and special teams, but given our successful history of turning walk-on quarterbacks into safeties, he could rise as high as third-string due to a shortage of scholarship players.
