66 DAYS TO KICKOFF: Parker Whitney

In which BracketCat counts down the 66th day until kickoff with a profile of offensive lineman Parker Whitney.

Stepping into B.J. Finney's No. 66 is walk-on JUCO transfer Parker Whitney, who I am projecting to play the same position.

Parker Grant Whitney (b. Nov. 17, 1993) is a walk-on offensive lineman from Butler Community College. He arrived in time for spring practices, but did not participate in this year's spring game. I penciled him in as a backup center.

Whitney layed two seasons under head coach Troy Morrell, helping the Grizzlies to finish sixth nationally in 2013 with a 9-2 record and second in 2012 with an 11-1 mark. He played with current KSU offensive lineman Luke Hayes.

Whitney signed with Abilene Christian in 2014, but opted to return to Butler to continue his education, expending his redshirt year in the process. That made him able to enroll early as a full qualifier at K-State, however.

He played his junior and senior seasons under head coach Greg Slade at Rose Hill High School, where he helped the Rockets to earn a 13-1 record and a Class 4A State Championship as a senior in 2011.

Whitney earned all-state honors from both The Topeka Capital-Journal and The Wichita Eagle.

Prior to his junior year, he attended Andover Central High School as a freshman and sophomore — the same high school as current Wildcats offensive lineman Boston Stiverson.
