#73 Mitch Copeland |
Position: Defensive Tackle Previous College: None Projection: Scout Team Status: Preferred Walk-On |
Mitchell David Copeland (b. Nov. 14, 1995) is a preferred walk-on defensive tackle who redshirted in 2014. I expect him to contribute this year mainly on the scout team. His brother, Myles, is a junior linebacker for the Wildcats.
Mitch Copeland lettered four years under head coaches Bill Messamore and Mike Gehrer at Collegiate High School in Wichita, where he helped the Spartans to earn a 30-11 record over his four years.
He was named a first-team all-state lineman as both a junior and senior, earning honors on the offensive side in 2012 and on the defensive side in 2013.
Copeland had 116 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries in his last two years.
He played his freshman and sophomore seasons with his older brother, Myles, and all four years with current Wildcats quarterback Landon Root, an incoming transfer from Northern Illinois. Copeland also lettered in track.
