87 DAYS TO KICKOFF: Dawson Elliott

In which BracketCat counts down the 87th day until kickoff with a profile of wide receiver Dawson Elliott.

I don't expect Dawson Elliott to collect even as much playing time as Sheldon Smith (87), but I've been wrong before.

Bio

Position: Wide Receiver

Previous College: Butler Community College

Projection: Scout Team

Status: Walk-On

Dawson Tanner Elliott (b. Dec. 4, 1992) is a wide receiver who walked on from the community college ranks prior to the 2014 season. He still technically has a redshirt to use, although I expect him to be on the scout team this year.

He did not play in either of the last two spring games, yet he saw action last season against Kansas, but did not record any statistics. Does that officially make KU worse than the White team?

Elliott played two seasons at Butler Community College under head coach Troy Morrell. He was a JUCO teammate of fellow Wildcats and offensive linemen Reed Bergstrom and Luke Hayes.

Elliott totaled 17 receptions for 227 yards and one touchdown as a sophomore, while he had 18 catches for 165 yards as a freshman. He helped the Grizzlies to register a combined 20-3 record during his two years, including the 2012 season in which Butler was the National Junior College Athletic Association runner-up.

Prior to his JUCO stint, Elliott prepped at Goddard High School under head coach Charlie Nally. He earned first-team all-league honors and was an honorable-mention all-state performer after rushing for nearly 1,000 yards.

He also lettered three years in wrestling, his team was three-time state champions and he finished fourth individually in 2010. A wrestling background usually is indicative of a strong athlete who can block well.
