#91 DeAndre Roberts |
Position: Defensive Tackle Previous College: Ventura (Calif.) College Projection: Scout Team Status: On Scholarship |
DeAndre Roberts was a mysterious late signee in the class of 2012 who used the 2013 season to develop and will look to be a part of the playing rotation in 2014. He was supposed to go on scholarship this year, if one is available.
Official sources list him as a defensive tackle, but his community college's page says he played both defensive end and defensive tackle for the Pirates, earning all-conference honors during his last season.
Roberts had 38 tackles, half a sack, three tackles for loss and two pass breakups in 2012, when he helped Ventura College to a 10-1 record, including a 6-0 mark in conference play, and capture a league title.
A four-time letterwinner at Sylmar High School, Roberts was named an all-city performer and was selected as the league MVP as a senior. He combined for 213 tackles and 20 sacks during his junior and senior seasons.
Roberts, who also lettered twice in basketball, twice in wrestling and three years in track and field, signed with Nevada out of high school and redshirted during the 2010 season.
Since Roberts didn't see the field last season and only had two tackles (one solo and one assisted) as a starter for the White team in the spring game, nobody knows what to expect of him this year.
But given our depth of scholarship talent and the high praise being heaped on walk-on defensive tackle Will Geary, it's hard to project at this point that Roberts will be anything more than a scout-team player.
