NFL Draft 2014: Former K-State RB John Hubert joining Saints

The second-leading rusher in K-State history, behind only Darren Sproles, John Hubert's going to get a chance to catch on Sproles' last location: New Orleans. Per Aaron Wilson at Ravens Insider, Hubert has been offered an invitation to minicamp:

The 5'7" 202 running back emerged on the scene as a sophomore at a time when the starting RB position was suddenly up for grabs because Bryce Brown had landed squarely in Bill Snyder's doghouse. Hubert announced his presence by busting a couple of long runs in K-State's surprising (at the time) win over the Miami Hurricanes at the Orange Bowl. From that point on, he was a mainstay in the backfield, and in case the subtle point wasn't clear, he stole the job from Bryce Brown. Over the next three years, he was the model of consistency; he ran for over 900 yards his sophomore and junior seasons and slipped over the 1000-yard mark as a senior.

He's also a good blocker; a running back doesn't get essentially all the reps in Bill Snyder's backfield if he's not, and during Hubert's three years as a starter other running backs didn't even manage to accumulate 100 yards. As a sophomore and junior, the backfield was Hubert and Collin Klein from whistle to gun, except for a few carries in mop-up duty. So durability is also a plus.

Hubert was one of two Wildcats to play in post-season all-star games, carrying the ball three times for five yards and catching a pass in the Medal of Honor Bowl. He wasn't invited to the combine, but at Pro Day in march he posted a 4.55 40 (he's been clocked as low as 4.47), pushing 15 bench reps.

John's probably not destined for a long career, but he's a hard worker and a quality back. Size, obviously, is going to be his downfall. But remember one thing: this is a guy who played in the same city as LaDainian Tomlinson... and broke all his city rushing records. He's always been a bit disrespected, and just gone out gained yards.

This announcement makes three actual K-State '14 grads and one K-State transfer catching on with the Saints. Can we start calling the Superdome BSFS South?
