The countdown now stands at 39 (or 40). Eight more games today lop another 20 percent off the total, and after this afternoon only Division I will remain as Division II bows out with the crowning of its men's champion. We also fill half the men's Final Four, half the women's Elite Eight, and a second championship gets awarded in the Women's Basketball Invitational. Here is your open thread for the day, and remember: Wisconsin must die.
We are all still Flyers. We are also Wildcats (duh), because Wisconsin must be extinguished. These are incontrovertible truths. After a pair of down-to-the-wire semifinals, it's time to see who's going to join the Bentley women as Division II basketball champions. Can the Mules stop West Liberty's high-flying offense? Can the Hilltoppers match up with the MIAA's best? Will a school less than an hour from Kansas City that isn't Kansas win a national championship? There's no men's game conflicting with this one, so you've got the opportunity to find out if you've got the inclination.

Your viewing choices for the early games are to support the Big 12 against Kentucky, or to watch the field's biggest remaining underdog try to completely blow up the Final Four schedule. (If BYU gets past UConn and the winner of the DePaul-Texas A&M game, the semifinal round of the Final Four will have to be moved, since it's on Sunday.) Your choices for the afternoon games are quite similar: Big 12 vs Big Bully, or a chance at a somewhat major -- though not nearly as huge as a BYU win would be -- upset. We reach the end of the WBI this afternoon, as Charleston -- not an unlikely candidate for this title -- faces Illinois-Chicago, a school which has never won anything at all, really. You'd think they could get the championship game on an actual television network, but no.
