Pulling yet another podium sweep -- 60% of their medals in these games have been earned in that fashion -- the Dutch leapt to the top of the leaderboard temporarily. The second USA medal of the day forced a tie at the top. Russia picked up one, and Canada a pair, but our friends to the north slipped a spot thanks to three Norwegian podium spots. Germany also added a pair, but the surfeit of medals above them leave Deutchland at the bottom of today's top six:

Svendsen almost blew it. With Fourcade on his heels, the Norwegian raised his arms in celebration as he reached the finish line and almost lost the gold medal when Fourcade lunged forward. It was a photo finish, and it took a painfully long time for the result to be made official. Americans Tim Burke and Lowell Bailey finished 21st and 23rd, respectively.

Anze Kopitar, Jan Urbas, Sabahudin Kovacevic, and Jan Mursak all scored for the Slovenes as Robert Kristan blanked Austria. Austrian Michael Grabner exits the Olympics holding the current men's goal-scoring lead with five; Slovenia's reward is a quarterfinal date with Sweden.
Alexander Radulov had two goals and an assist and Pavel Datsyuk had a three-assist night as Russia shutout Norway. Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexei Tereshchenko added goals for Russia, and the crowd got to enjoy Viktor Tikhonov getting on the scoresheet with an assist. The hosts advance to play Finland.
A pair of Lauris Darzins goals, and another from Oskars Bartulis, lifted Latvia to an upset win over Switzerland. Martin Pluss scored for the Swiss. Latvia advances to play Canada. The other late game? Barn-burner. Four different scorers found the net for the Czech Republic -- Ales Hemsky, Roman Cervenka twice, David Krejci, and Tomas Plekanec with 39 seconds left into an empty net while on a power play to put the game out of reach. Plekanec and Krejci had assists, as well as a pair from Tomas Kaberle. But in between Cervenka's second goal with four minutes left in the second period and Plekanec's game-ender, Slovakia made things very interesting. Marian Hossa scored twice, and Tomas Surovy scored to make it 4-3 midway through the third period. Andrej Sekara and Michal Handzus each had two assists for the Slovaks. The Czechs advance to play Team USA.

American Nick Holland, seven-time X-Games gold medalist, didn't even get out of the 1/8 finals. Nor did Nick Baumgartner. Alex Diebold and Trevor Jacob did, and then survived the quarterfinal. Placed in the same semifinal, Diebold beat Jacob to the line for third place in a photo-finish, sending Diebold on to the final and Jacob to the consolation. Jacob finished third in that run for an overall ninth-place finish.
