Wildcat faithful will no doubt be wary of this game. 1998 is best known for the Wildcats loss to Texas A&M in the Big 12 Conference title game, but the purple fans also remember the next game, a 37-34 loss to Purdue in the Alamo Bowl.
A Look Back at 1998
It was the Wildcats first and only appearance in the game set in southern Texas, and the Cats' placement in that game was a slap in the face at the time. The Cats played like it was an injustice for the first three quarters before deciding they could put up a fight against the Drew Brees-led Boilermakers.
There's very little I can add to an already written story, so I will just let you read up on Bill Connelly's great breakdown Anatomy Of An Upset: The 1998 Alamo Bowl.
A Look Ahead to 2015
Why yes, this game isn't a slap in the face anymore. The Alamo Bowl picked up big enough sponsors to throw enough cash into the pot to make themselves the Big 12's top non-CFP bowl game (after Playoff, Cotton and Peach). Also, this game is now a January bowl, being played this year on Friday, January 2nd, 2015, meaning the Cat's will have played football in January in three of the last four bowl seasons.
This game should also make for a good showing by the Wildcat Faithful. Being twelve hours from Manhattan isn't bad, and there are a TON of Purple People in Texas. Add in that K-State hasn't been the San Antonio in almost two decades, and it's easy to see this as a big win for K-State fans as far as destination is concerned.
