It's that time of Sunday when we find out what the coaches thought of the weekend's action. K-State suffered for their narrow defeat at home to #5 Auburn, but managed to avoid sliding off the precipice as they hang on to the #25 slot in the poll. Their lead over Oklahoma State, however, is narrow.
The big winners with the coaches were Mississippi State, leaping 11 spots after their upset win in Baton Rouge last night, and East Carolina, who jumped 9 places following yesterday's utter destruction of North Carolina. The third unranked team to join the party was Duke, who didn't exactly do much to deserve it other than making it to 4-0 (not that this is a bad thing).
Falling: Missouri, Clemson, and North Carolina all tumbled out -- North Carolina receiving no votes at all, the equivalent of falling 20 places -- while LSU slid 10 spots. Missouri's fall was an 18-floor descent; Clemson only fell four places. K-State's fall was the sixth-largest of the week, with Florida and Virginia Tech also taking large tumbles from "also receiving votes" to "not".
The poll is back to its full complement of 62 coaches. The missing ballot last week was not, as I erroneously assumed, missing due to June Jones' resignation; it was just a missing ballot.
And on that note: your coaches' poll for September 21:
