Kansas State moves up to 12 in AP poll, 11 in Coaches poll

A couple of wins may be all it takes to secure a big bowl payday.

Well, K-State doesn't have a #11 anyway.

Kansas State didn't quite slide back into the top ten, but they came close as today's AP poll and USA Today/Amway Coaches poll were announced. The Wildcats move up one spot, to #12, in the AP and two spots, to #11, in the coaches poll. In the AP, the difference between K-State and #11 UCLA is a mere 8 points; K-State's lead over UCLA in the coaches poll is only 18. May as well be a tie.

Georgia Tech, Wisconsin, and Utah were the big upwardly-mobile winners this week, each rising seven places in the coaches poll. Notre Dame and Clemson were the big losers. The Irish fell 11 spots in the AP and 10 in the coaches, while Clemson dove 9 in the AP and 10 in the coaches; both are now unranked.  Also falling out of both polls was LSU, taking an 8-place fall in the coaches poll and 10 in the AP. Nebraska suffered the same slide as LSU, but remains ranked because they had further to fall.

Returning to the AP poll are Missouri, USC, and -- after their long and miserable absence, they've finally regained respectability as a program -- Oklahoma. Missouri, Southern Cal, and Utah return to the coaches poll. The only team to receive votes this week which had not done so previously this season is Northern Illinois, who pocked up a couple of points in the coaches poll.

As is custom, we include the computer composite rankings as compiled by Kenneth Massey. This week, they're based on the 58 rankings which had been collated at the time of this post. Five teams who received top-25 votes this week or last are not in the computer top 40; four teams within the computer top 40 received no votes this week.
