Chaos Saturday has benefitted the Kansas State Wildcats greatly in today's coaches poll, released this morning. The Wildcats leapt six spots from #22 to #16, passing over the likes of LSU, Wisconsin, BYU, USC, Nebraska, Stanford, UCLA -- all losers this week -- and passing East Carolina as well. Yes, that's eight teams; TCU (jumping to #12) and Arizona (to #13) bypassed K-State on their way up after big wins.
The pack chasing Florida State all fell six or seven spots; Alabama is now 7th, Oklahoma 9th, and Oregon 11th. The big winners this week other than Arizona and TCU: Auburn, Baylor, and Ole Miss moved up to fill the vacuum left by the departing top five teams, while Mississippi State moved up 8 spots, and have now risen 23 spots in just two weeks. Oklahoma State and Arizona State both got decent bumps by failing to lose, and unbeaten Georgia Tech finally enters the poll for the first time. The only unbeaten team in FBS not in the top 25 is Marshall; they're sitting in 26th, waiting for their chance.
We'll have the AP poll in a couple of hours, which -- as is always the case following chaos -- will probably look quite a bit different.
