#7 Judah Jones |
Position: Wide Receiver Previous College: None Projection: Third-String Status: On Scholarship |
Judah Jones (b. Nov. 14, 1993) is a speedy wide receiver who originally signed with Kansas State out of high school in 2012 and enrolled in time for spring drills in 2013 (also known as grayshirting).
He used a redshirt season in 2013 to develop, and will compete for a role at wide receiver and on special teams.
Jones had two kickoff returns in the 2013 spring game, but no catches. That changed in this year's spring game, when he caught two passes for 58 yards, rushed six times for 9 yards and returned two kickoffs for 14 yards.
Jones recorded just more than 1,000 all-purpose yards and scored 16 touchdowns en route to all-district honors as a junior at Evangel Christian High. He had 43 receptions for 728 receiving yards with six touchdowns as a senior.
He averaged 24 yards on eight kick returns in 2011, when Evangel advanced to the Louisiana 2A State semifinals.
Although he's a work in progress (hence the grayshirt), Jones certainly looks the part of a speedster. I suspect he will see the field in limited fashion at wide receiver, but make more impact on special teams as a return specialist.
Fun fact: Jones plays the drums for the highly successful family Christian gospel band, forever JONES. His parents formed the band with their five children. The band was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2011.
