Joseph Kyle Hubener (b. May 21, 1993) is a walk-on quarterback from Cheney High School, where he was a two-year letter-winner for the Cardinals under head coach Dustin McEwan.

Hubener played quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back, and also was a four-year letterman in basketball.

He was a member of the honor roll, won the president's education award, volunteered for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and was a basketball and soccer recreational coach.

Hubener redshirted in 2012 and appeared in the Iowa State game in 2013, rushing twice for 5 yards.

In the 2013 spring game, Hubener rushed six times for 14 yards and completed 2 of 6 passes with an interception for the White team. He also fumbled. I thought Kody Cook looked better, but Hubener ended up on the third team.

He built on that arguably outplaying Jesse Ertz in the 2014 spring game, throwing a beautiful 51-yard touchdown pass to Judah Jones for the White team's only touchdown of the scrimmage. He was 11 of 16 for 124 yards overall.

Hubener also rushed three times for 11 yards in April. He took a sack, but did not turn the ball over this time.

There is every chance he could be the second- or third-string quarterback this season, but I just think Ertz and Taylor Laird have more upside in the long run, which is why I have them projected higher in the position standings.
