#16 Matthew McCrane |
Position: Kicker Previous College: None Projection: Third-String Status: On Scholarship |
Matthew McCrane (Sept. 8, 1994) is a talented place-kicker who redshirted the 2013 season after graduating early from high school and spending the 2013 spring season at Kansas State.
In the 2013 spring game, McCrane averaged averaged 58.3 yards on three kickoffs. He connected on 7 of 12 field goals as a senior at Brownwood High School, including a school-record 52-yarder.
McCrane was selected to play on Team USA in the 2013 U19 International Bowl and also won the Dallas Kicking Camp's Golden Boot Award in 2011.
McCrane was ranked the No. 17 kicker in the nation by 247 composite ranking, and No. 18 in the nation by Scout and 247. Kohl's National Scholarship Invite Camp gave him a five-star rating as a kicker and a 4.5 as a punter.
In addition to K-State, he had offers from Air Force, Northwestern, Oklahoma State and Southern Arkansas. The Cowboys have a good eye for kickers (remember Quinn Sharp?), so that second-to-last offer is most encouraging.
McCrane's best shot to see the field early is as a kickoff specialist, but Ian Patterson seems to have that job locked down for now. It might take an injury for McCrane to kick in 2014. You can watch his highlights here and here.
