#30 Corey Jackson |
Position: Defensive Back Previous College: None Projection: Scout Team Status: Walk-On |
Corey Jackson is a walk-on defensive back from Central High School in St. Joseph, Mo. He came for 2013 spring practice, which makes him sort of like a grayshirt, but I believe he is a walk-on, so there's no scholarship to defer.
Jackson popped up on most radars when he returned an interception 55 yards for the White team in the 2013 spring game. He followed that up this year with two tackles for the White team in the 2014 spring game.
If nothing else, Jackson is pretty fearless when playing defensive back, which is something every good defensive back needs in the Big 12 Conference. He also tallied four tackles in the later stages of last year's game.
Jackson was drawing rave reviews during spring camp this year, and apparently was even running with the 1s and the 2s at some point. But the arrival of Denzel McDaniel and the maturing of Cre Moore should make that temporary.
I liked what I saw of Jackson's game, and since we usually have three cornerbacks on the field at any given time, he's got a chance at a little playing time this fall. But we're deep enough that the scout team seems to be his calling.
