#80 Cody Small |
Position: Tight End Previous College: None Projection: Second-String Status: On Scholarship |
Don't be fooled by his name — David Cody Small (b. Sept. 16, 1993) is anything but small.
A talented young tight end who benefited from a redshirt season in 2013, Small originally signed with K-State out of high school in 2012, but spent that fall as a part-time student paying his own way — also known as a "grayshirt."
He collected one tackle in the 2013 spring game after an interception. This spring, he had two catches for 17 yards, with a long of 9, for the White team, for which he was a starting tight end.
Small helped Cypress Woods High School to a 9-3 record in 2011 and was listed in VYPE's Top 75 Football Prospects in the northern Houston area at No. 38.
An all-district performer as a junior and senior who also earned All-Houston area honors as a senior, Small was named a "Rising Star" in 2010 by 5ATexasFootball.com at defensive end.
He also was on Cypress Woods’ 7-on-7 team, which reached the semifinals of the Cy Falls Tournament in 2011.
I'll be honest — from watching Small's film, I actually liked him better as a defensive end prospect. He might yet end up there, too, but I'm willing to wait and see what he offers at tight end in 2014. He should be the No. 2 tight end.
