KANSAS STATE RPI WATCH: 01/27/15

New, 1 comment

In which Texas Tech finally gets off the schneid, KU and K-State collect huge wins, West Virginia wins a game it probably shouldn't have, and all but three of the Cats' non-conference foes win Saturday.

In a battle of teams seeking to avoid their fourth Big 12 loss in January, Baylor edged Oklahoma and stayed alive in the conference race, while the Sooners are in a bad way now.

In the winners' circle Saturday:

  • Arizona continued to dominate a weak Pac-12 with its fourth straight road win.
  • Baylor weathered a futile comeback effort by OU to avoid losing four conference games this month.
  • Bradley and Nebraska-Omaha finally picked up their second conference wins.
  • Georgia completed a sweep of the Mississippi teams to stay near the top of the SEC.
  • Kansas seized control of the Big 12 with a dominant, near flawless victory at preseason darling Texas.
  • Kansas State handily avenged its season-opening loss and low water mark at Oklahoma State.
  • Long Beach State got back on a winning track after dropping its first league contest.
  • Savannah state won its first MEAC game of 2014-15.
  • Texas A&M did what the Cats who beat it could not — won in Knoxville. Big boost for the Aggies.
  • Texas Tech shocked the Cyclones and the world by winning its first Big 12 game in upset fashion.
  • UMKC won its second straight conference game, as did Purdue, which helped to knock Iowa out of the rankings.
  • West Virginia narrowly escaped TCU for the second time with some timely help from the striped ones.

But in less positive news, PIttsburgh fell below .500 in the ACC for the first time, Southern Utah was swept by the Montana schools and Texas Southern lost its first conference game, so it wasn't all sunshine and roses.
