KANSAS STATE RPI WATCH: 01/13/15

New, 1 comment

In which everyone lost this weekend, save K-State, four other Big 12 teams and Texas Southern.

Almost all of K-State's opponents lost last weekend, but after what happened in Norman, nobody much cared.

It was Black Saturday (or, in the case of Arizona, Black Sunday) for the near entirety of the RPI WATCH. Yes, K-State won — and so did four other Big 12 teams, by definition — but other than Texas Southern, that was all of the winning.

Whether it was Purdue losing its second straight game to a ranked team, Pittsburgh getting whacked at home by a pretty poor Clemson team or Arizona's hideous upset at Oregon State, the Maui field did nothing for our numbers.

The SEC was no better, with Tennessee being utterly humiliated at home by a suddenly hot Alabama team, Georgia opening conference play 0-2 and losing to an LSU squad that lost to Mizzou, and Kentucky just barely surviving A&M.

But none of that mattered in the grand scheme of things — not with K-State picking up its first signature win of the year, a potential season-saver in Norman. Iowa State and Oklahoma State also sprung upsets of higher-ranked clubs.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Baylor, a team that was just a few minutes from opening conference play a truly disappointing 0-3. Instead, the Bears knuckled down and forced an overtime victory, proving TCU still is TCU.
