KANSAS STATE RPI WATCH: 11/28/14

In which the Maui Invitational and MGM Grand Main Event come to an end, but the Battle 4 Atlantis, Las Vegas Invitational and Orlando Classic get under way.

More than any other team since our last RPI WATCH update, Oklahoma has improved its résumé by leaps and bounds.

The Maui Invitational came to a disappointing end for the Wildcats with a deflating loss to Pittsburgh. That means K-State left the tournament with the second-longest losing streak after "host" Chaminade.

On the plus side, Arizona led almost wire to wire against San Diego State and proved to be the best team in the field. I want to believe K-State is the team that almost beat those Wildcats and not the one that quit Wednesday.

Purdue had to go to overtime, but was able to net a nice win against BYU and leave Maui with a two-game winning streak. I am hopeful that the Boilermakers can improve, make some noise in the Big Ten and become a quality win.

All in all, though, coming out of this road trip 1-3 was not very positive, and I'm not sure that sweeping Georgia, Tennessee and Texas A&M will be enough the offset the damage we just did to our résumé. But I hope I'm wrong.

In other tournament action, Oklahoma picked up a pair of nice wins and stormed to the Atlantis final, Oklahoma State beat Tulsa and actually saw its RPI drop, Baylor crushed Memphis, and Georgia was smacked by Gonzaga.

K-State's other two wins became even worse, with each team dropping its fourth game. And Texas Southern fell to 0-5. But there are three competent teams coming in the immediate future, so it's time to buckle up and win.
