#68 William Cooper |
Position: Offensive Line Previous College: None Projection: Second-String Status: On Scholarship |
William Cooper Jr. (b. Feb. 7, 1990) is a reserve offensive lineman redshirted in Bill Snyder's second "first" season (2009) and played only sparingly the next two seasons as a reserve offensive lineman.
He finally saw his first game action last season in mop-up duty versus Kansas and Texas Tech. I think he can build on that and back up left tackle Cornelius Lucas. Cooper's by far our most experienced reserve tackle, left or right.
Although I was skeptical a few years ago of Cooper's ability to play left tackle, he's gained 37 pounds since that time. While still a little short for the position at 6-foot-4, he probably could pull it off if we needed him to do so.
Hopefully, our top two tackles, Lucas and Tavon Rooks, will stay healthy all season and we won't ever need to find out. But even then, it's more likely that Cody Whitehair slides over and Keenan Taylor comes in to replace him.
