In which BracketCat counts down the 13th day until kickoff with a profile of defensive back Travis Green.

Randall Evans needs some help in the defensive backfield. Maybe Travis Green can provide that.

Bio

Position: Defensive Back

Previous College: Iowa Western Community College

Projection: Second-String

Status: On Scholarship

Travis Green is a community college transfer who enrolled in time for spring practices and will look to contribute immediately. He led all White defenders in the spring game with four solo and four assisted tackles.

Green helped Iowa Western, quarterbacked by Jake Waters, to win its first NJCAA national championship in 2012.

He played outside linebacker and strong safety for the Reivers during his redshirt freshman year and was named to the All-Midwest Conference first team as a defensive back in 2012.

Green earned back-to-back Player of the Week honors for his performances against North Dakota SCS and Ellsworth Community College. He recorded 62 tackles last season, including seven tackles for loss.

He also tallied one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and five interceptions, two of which he returned for scores.

Green signed and redshirted at Dodge City Community College in 2010 before deciding to play closer to home at IWCC, so he has three years to play three seasons for us. He verbaled to K-State as a high school senior.

He led Omaha North High School to back-to-back district titles in 2008 and 2009; was a three-year letterwinner for coach Larry Martin; and was an all-state, all-district and all-metro performer in 2010.

Green tallied more than 100 tackles and 10 interceptions during his last two prep seasons. I expect him to become a primary backup for Dante Barnett and Ty Zimmerman at either of the safety positions.
