#86 Tramaine Thompson |
Position: Wide Receiver Previous College: None Projection: Starter Status: On Scholarship |
Tramaine Thompson (b. April 10, 1990) took a while to come back from his 2010 midseason injury during the 2011 season, but by the end of the season, he again was one of our two best wide receivers.
That progress continued into last season, with Thompson cementing himself as a threat from the slot position.
In the last two seasons, Thompson has caught 58 passes for 864 yards and five touchdowns. Now that he could have a true passing quarterback in Jake Waters, it's possible he could exceed those figures in 2013.
He's also a major threat in the return game, having taken back 28 kickoffs for 682 yards, and 26 punts for 439 yards and a scintillating touchdown against Missouri State. He's been named to the 2013 Paul Hornung Award watch list.
Granted, he's still on the same team as Tyler Lockett, who's also on the Hornung watch list, so that might keep Thompson's overall statistics down, but with Chris Harper no longer in the picture, Thompson will do heavy lifting.
Given his six catches for 161 yards and two touchdowns in the spring game, it appears that remains true.
