K-State Pulls in More CBs Than They Need in One Week

In literally less than a week -- five days, to be exact -- Bill Snyder managed to get commits from three JUCO corners.

It was a crazy week at Vanier, apparently, as the Wildcat coaching staff appears to have launched an all-out assault on transfer cornerbacks. A good thing, too, as the Cats don't appear to be on the verge of landing any prep corners.

Thursday came the news that Itawamba CC corner Darius White was on board the Wabash Cannonball. Then on Sunday Danzel McDaniel, a corner from Dodge City CC, tweeted out his intention to head to Manhattan. And yesterday, along came Highland CC corner Jesse Mack.

White, originally from Granada, Mississippi, had offers from Texas Tech and California, as well as several non-AQ schools. He never even visited Cal, and took less than three weeks to announce his commitment to K-State after his official visit on November 22. The 6'1" 180 White is a three-star across the board; 247 has him in their top 150 nationally and as the 16th-best available cornerback, grading out at .831. ESPN has him ranked higher (#6 at CB, but not ranked overall), but grades him out lower at 78.

A 6'2" 205 native of Dolton, Illinois, McDaniel spurned offers from Nebraska, Iowa State, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, South Florida, and others, and had drawn interest from Arkansas, Auburn, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Cincinnati, North Carolina State, and KU. He's also a solid three, though ranked just a bit higher than White; he's rated at .856 and ranked 85th nationally and 10th at CB by 247. ESPN grades him at a 78 also, but has him ranked 4th among all cornerbacks and he's ranked #44 in the ESPN JC50. In other words, he's a damned fine get.

Mack, from Spartanburg, South Carolina, is sort of an enigma. He's unranked by any of the major services, although 247 did slap an 83 rating on him yesterday when his commitment broke. He's 5'11-1/2" 180, and redshirted last season so he's got three to play three in Manhattan. He was offered on Friday, taking all of three days to decide. It doesn't even appear that anyone else was interested, and he hasn't even taken his official visit yet; that'll be on January 17. Frankly, this is about the point I throw up my hands and crowdsource, because it's not like recruiting's my bag, yo.
