Open Game Thread (WBB): K-State vs. Cal-Santa Barbara

It's Operation Santa day at Bramlage as the ladies try to avoid falling to .500. And it's on TV!

It's a K-State women's basketball picture without Britney Griner in it. It was hard to find.

Who: K-State (4-3) vs. Cal-Santa Barbara (4-4)

When: December 15, 2013 | 1:00 p.m. CST

Where: Bramlage Coliseum

Media: 1350 KMAN | FCS Central

The women conclude their 2013 home slate this afternoon against the Gauchos of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Since the game's on the television device, I figured we could have ourselves a little open thread action before the main event this evening.

UCSB is not having a wonderful season so far, and has dropped two of their last three. The Gauchos, who reached the WNIT last season, are led by head coach Carlene Mitchell, and if that name rings a bell it's because she used to play for Deb Patterson; Mitchell was a letter-winner at K-State back in 1995-96. Senior guard Nicole Nesbit leads all UCSB scorers at an 18.4 points-per-game clip; senior guard Destini Mason also puts in 14.4 a game and averages 6.4 boards, and Melissa Zomig is averaging 12.4 points per game. K-State leads the all-time series 2-0.

Let's hope the ladies can get one in the books this afternoon. Go Cats!
