#8 Angelo Pease |
Position: Running Back Previous College: Hutchinson Community College Projection: Second-String Status: On Scholarship |
Angelo Pease (b. Aug. 12, 1991) is the quintessential jack-of-all-trades kind of player. He originally signed with K-State in 2009, failed to qualify, but stayed true to that commitment through two excellent seasons at Hutchinson.
Pease did a little of everything for the Blue Dragons, playing quarterback, Wildcat back, running back and even a little wide receiver. He's listed as a running back on our roster, but theoretically could play any of those positions.
In 2011, he appeared in 10 games, accounting for 144 rushing yards and 21 receiving yards, for an average of 16.5 yards per game. I thought he could have been used more effectively, but he had injury issues.
Now, I think we pretty much can scrap the Wildcat package with Pease. It always seemed to result in a loss of yards, and considering Collin Klein pretty much is our Wildcat quarterback, but more of a threat to throw, why bother?
At any rate, I hope Pease can draw a little closer to his rate of production when he was at Hutch, where he rushed 155 times for 834 yards (5.4 yards per carry) and nine touchdowns in 2010, including an 83-yard TD run.
Pease also was 12 of 26 for 281 yards, six touchdowns, zero interceptions and a pass efficiency of 213.1. And he caught 10 passes for 71 yards. He's been clocked between 4.5 and 4.55 in the 40-yard dash, so he's plenty fast.
All told, Pease accounted for 1,115 yards on 181 touches in 2010, an average of 101.4 yards of offense, which included an eye-popping 228 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries in a single game last season.
Fun fact: Pease's high school mascot? The Syrupmakers, which is just about the coolest team name ever.
