Tomasi Mariner (b. June 19, 1991) is a textbook example of how Bill Snyder is rebuilding this football program from the ground up. We're talking about a local product who came in a little undersized and quite a bit raw at the position.

After one grayshirt season, one redshirt season and one season as a primary backup, he's ready to step into the fall with three springs under his belt and three years of eligibility ahead of him.

Oh, and did I mention he's bulked up to more than 315 pounds during that "off" time?

Mariner's currently projected to back up B.J. Finney at center since Shaun Simon is out for the season, but it's entirely plausible that Mariner also could slide over to either left or right guard and claim a starting role in the fall.

It seems all but certain that he will be in our main rotation of around eight offensive linemen now that Manase Foketi is out, but Mariner's exact role remains to be defined and might be the biggest wild card on the offense this year.
