#91 Darryl Blackmon |
Position: Defensive Tackle Previous College: City College of San Francisco Projection: Scout Team Status: On Scholarship |
Darryl Blackmon (b. Jan. 31, 1990) is a hulking beast of a man. He's every bit of a legitimate 6-foot-7 and he's he seriously ripped, to boot. After a redshirt season to adapt, it's time to figure out where he fits into our plans.
Blackmon will enter the fall listed as a defensive tackle, but the rotation at that position is deep and he might not crack it. While there's no reason to think he can't be effective there at his size, I still envision a different fate for him.
His frame just screams offensive tackle in the making. It's no wonder he basically was able to talk Bill Snyder into giving him a scholarship with nothing but a phone call and an in-person interview.
The road Blackmon traveled to end up at a Division I program is long and winding, probably too much so to revisit here. If you're a premium member, you'll likely find this link far more informative than anything I can write.
The long and short of it is that K-State's final addition to the 2011 class (no one even knew he was coming until late May) only has been playing football for two or three years. Raw doesn't even begin to describe his skills.
But even taking a chance on him implies the coaches think he's a tantalizing prospect. And it's no wonder why.
