So Much For Cinderellas: Stony Brook was absolutely battered over the weekend by UCLA and Florida State, losing both games by a combined score of 21-3 and thus becoming the first team sent home from Omaha. This afternoon, either Kent State or Florida will also be departing; should Florida lose, it throws the men's Capital One Cup into complete chaos, especially with UCLA now carrying a loss (to Arizona) into Tuesday's elimination game with Florida State. Arkansas and South Carolina are still hanging in the winners' bracket, as each school has played only once so far. They'll face off tonight, with the loser taking on the Florida/Kent State winner on Wednesday.
Speaking of Arizona: The Wildcats had secured, via the graduate transfer rule, the services of former Akron LB Brian Wagner, the #2 returning tackler in all of Division I FBS. Had, I say, because Wagner has suddenly decided he doesn't want to play football anymore. It's a serious blow to a defense which ranked near the bottom of FCS last year, and for whom linebacker was probably the weakest link.
Diablerie: LSU's SEC championship rings: We're #2! ... Mack Brown's finally on Twitter, y'all. ... Georgia Tech newlyweds trollin' the hell outta Georgia. ... Pat White's giving up football to become an actor.
