RPI WATCH: 3/3/12

Positives:

  • Alabama moved one win closer to a first-day bye in the SEC Tournament.
  • Long Beach State moved one win closer to a perfect regular season in conference play.
  • West Virginia moved one win closer to not falling deeper into the bubble, although nothing is certain yet.

Negatives:

  • Charleston Southern advanced to the Big South semifinals, where it then was whomped thoroughly by No. 1-seeded Asheville, which apparently is desperate to go back to Dayton, Ohio.
  • George Washington and UMES continued their losing ways as the conference regular season neared an end.
  • Loyola Chicago and Southern Illinois saw their seasons come to a blessed end with losses in their respective conference tournaments' first rounds. Actually, this is a positive. No more bad basketball from them!
  • North Florida also lost in its first conference tourney game to complete a perfectly mediocre 16-16 season. Thus ends the college career of Andy Diaz, brother to our own Adrian Diaz.
  • UTEP abhors success. Despite wins over Memphis and Southern Miss, the Miners will amount to nothing because they can't beat teams like Rice at home.
  • Virginia Tech has perfectly the art of the soul-crushing, two-point loss. Congratulations, Seth Greenberg.
