In an under-the-radar development not entirely related to RPI WATCH, Dominique Sutton might have played his final collegiate game Thursday.
Bethune-Cookman defeated North Carolina Central 60-59 in the MEAC quarterfinals, dropping the Eagles to 17-15 this season. A CBI or CIT bid is a possibility, but far from a certainty.
Sutton finished as the Eagles' leading scorer with 16 points, but had two costly turnovers in the final 3:39 to give the Wildcats some key baskets late. That final stretch was a scoreless one for NCCU.
Now for quick Championship Week recaps:
- George Washington, Iowa State, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, UMES and West Virginia all went one-and-done in their conference tournaments. None but ISU and WVU will appear in the Big Dance, and even the 'Eers' path there appears uneasy.
-
Alabama, Howard, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, UTEP and Virginia Tech went 1-1 in their tournaments. Only 'Bama and KU are guaranteed to appear in the Big Dance, but I think the Longhorns are safe now, too.
-
Baylor, Long Beach State and Missouri currently are 2-0 in their tournaments, and will play for championships today. All appear safe for the NCAAs, although the 49ers probably should just go ahead and win tonight to breathe easy.
