At this point, it's almost pointless to debate the BCS standings. But because it's K-State football and it's exciting to be back in this position, we'll do so anyway.
SB Nation's Samuel Chi projects K-State at No. 5 in the initial standings, behind Alabama, Oregon, Florida and Notre Dame, in that order. We could probably find reasons to quibble with that ranking based on K-State's résumé thus far, but that wouldn't be an absurd position. Furthermore, it positions K-State well as long as the Wildcats take care of business this season, which would include wins against currently ranked teams West Virginia, Texas Tech and Texas Christian, and apparently solid teams such as Oklahoma State, Baylor and Texas.
But again, that assumes K-State keeps winning. With the number of difficult tests that await, the odds are still long on that proposition. How many times in the last few years has everyone fretted about BCS chaos in mid-October when there were four or five undefeated teams on a roll, and then by November the number of undefeateds was down to one or two? For now, it's all about continuing to take care of business so we can position ourselves to take advantage of others' mistakes.
