RPI WATCH: 2/16/2011

Highlighting Tuesday night were a pair of disappointing performances by Big 12 teams playing at home.

Yes, Baylor and Missouri both won, but it wasn't for lack of trying.

How on earth did Baylor give Texas a scare in Austin, but follow that up by beating a NAIA team by just 14 points?

And how the heck did Missouri find itself, at multiple points in the game, either trailing or about to trail a team that has lost to a whopping four opponents with an RPI below 100?

For teams seeking an NCAA Tournament berth and a higher seed in said tournament, respectively, those were not inspiring efforts.

In non-conference action, James Madison, Presbyterian, UNLV and Virginia Tech all won, further boosting K-State's strength of schedule.

In particular, the Hokies swept Maryland and really are starting to become a quality win for the Cats. If they can beat Duke, we might even find ourselves with a second win over an RPI Top 50 opponent.
