Men's Basketball
K-State will play a two-year series with UNLV at neutral sites. This year, the Cats will travel to Sin City to take on the Runnin' Rebels at Orleans Arena, with UNLV returning the favor in 2010 as the two teams meet at Sprint Center in KC. I like this series, as it involves Lon Kruger, a solid non-conference opponent, and a solid non-conference opponent playing in Kansas City. Also, don't be surprised if the series becomes permanent and involves home venues.
Former K-State coach and basketball coaching legend Tex Winter is recovering from a stroke. Let me add to the drumbeat of K-Staters who really wishes the athletic department would do something about honoring Winter (hint, naming the court at Bramlage after he, Jack Gardner and Jack Hartman, hint).
Football
Phil Steele predicts that K-State will finish tied for second in the Big 12 North. With Colorado. Yes, you read that correctly. I'll have more commentary on this later, but for now, a question...who am I (or you, for that matter) to argue with Phil Steele?
The K-State/UCLA game in Los Angeles this fall will be televised by Fox Sports Net. Bet the farm that the national commentators 'conveniently' forget about this game when discussing Bill Snyder's non-conference scheduling practices (not that UCLA is exactly a powerhouse right now, but...)
Baseball
Brad Hill is ready to build on the foundation laid by the 2009 Bat Cats. Along those lines, Nick Martini and James Allen were named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team. That'll help build that foundation.
Did you notice all these links were from the Topeka Capital-Journal? Great job covering the Cats by the folks in the Capitol City.
