Kansas State senior quarterback Collin Klein has been named a finalist for both the Maxwell Award as the college football player of the year and the Davey O’Brien Award as nation’s best quarterback in a joint announcement by ESPN and the awards’ committees Monday afternoon.
Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein picked up his fourth honor in the past three days when he was selected as the Maxwell Award Player of the Week for his performance at No. 13 West Virginia, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday.
Klein earned Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors on Sunday, while he was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and was one of 16 quarterbacks named a semifinalist for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award on Monday.
Kansas State senior running back Daniel Thomas was named to the watch list for the 74th annual Maxwell Award, given annually to the nation's most outstanding college football player, the Maxwell Football Club has announced.
Thomas was one of 60 players nationally, including 10 from the Big 12 Conference, named to the preseason watch list, and became the first Wildcat to earn the distinction since Darren Sproles in 2004.
Former quarterback Michael Bishop also was a finalist for the award in 1998.
