Klein named finalist for Maxwell, O'Brien awards

Kansas State senior quarterback Collin Klein has been named a finalist for both the Maxwell Award as the college football player of the year and the Davey O’Brien Award as nation’s best quarterback in a joint announcement by ESPN and the awards’ committees Monday afternoon.

K-State moves to No. 2 in latest BCS standings

Kansas State earned its highest-ever BCS ranking Sunday night when the Wildcats checked in at No. 2 in the latest standings announced on ESPN. K-State, which was fourth in the initial poll this season, tied its previous best ranking last week by checking in at No. 3 before moving up one spot on Sunday.

K-State fourth in initial BCS standings

Following its hard-fought 27-21 victory Saturday at No. 25 Iowa State to move to 6-0, Kansas State was ranked fourth in the initial BCS standings released Sunday night on ESPN. The No. 4 ranking was tied for the highest for the Wildcats (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) in an opening BCS poll with the 1998 team, while it was the highest overall since sitting in third place for five straight weeks to end the 1998 season.

Weber re-energized at Kansas State

A surprisingly good feature written by notorious K-State disliker Jason King. Check it out. Also worth reading is this related blog entry by Eamonn Brennan.

Let's rock this vote, people!

Vote early. Vote often. We're currently trailing West Virginia by more than 2 to 1. C'mon, folks!

Regardless of where you fall on this matter, I think we all can agree it is NOTHING but positive press for Kansas State University. When one of the most recognizable basketball authorities in the nation is falling over himself to proclaim this job one of the most attractive in the nation, it elevates the school. I'm not saying we should hire him. But I think John Currie would be well-advised to take an hour down at the Final Four and at least interview the man. What could it hurt? If nothing else, maybe Gottlieb will give him some good marketing ideas.

Cats 25th in Coaches

We're also 26th in the AP, just behind San Diego State, with which we're basically co-No. 25. If I had to pick one worthless poll to be ranked in, though, it's the coaches because that No. 25 will be slathered across ESPN all week long.

BOTC Official Bowl Pick'em

Follow the link to the official BOTC bowl pick'em for this year. Sorry I was so late with this, but you still have a week to complete your picks, so quit whining. As with last year, there will be a prize for the winner with an identity to be determined later by Dear Leader TB (although it's likely to be something that can be worn on one's torso...) Also, in the interest of fairness, I will also promote EMAW 4 Ever's ESPN Bowl Mania group, but please note that his is not the official group and there will be no BOTC-sanctioned prize.

Kirk Herbstreit thinks Tuggle is a name to know by October??

Really Kirk? Really? That may have been closer to reality a few months ago...
