Post-Game Non-Reaction

Sorry folks, I wish I had more for you here.  My trial and the post-trial discussions ran long, so I have only seen highlights and final statistics of the game today.  Looked like we finally gave the ball to James Johnson a little more and--surprise!--he did it big.  Of course, he can't play defense, too, and the tackling on the Jeremy Maclin return was WRETCHED.

Also looks like the basketball team sleepwalked through a win over Western Illinois today.  I only was able to listen to a little bit of it because my Internet radio connection wasn't working too well.  Sounds like they came out swinging, got WIU down, and then just kind of coasted.  But really folks, get out and see Michael Beasley while you have the chance, the kid is something special.

Michael Beasley Watch: 28 points, 22 rebounds

This week will be better around these parts, I promise.  We'll get ready for the Fresno State game and our last, desperate gasp at bowl-eligibility.  Coming soon after the Fresno game will be TB's "State of the Wildcats" assessment of the season.  Feel free to provide your input for that post via the comments or the diaries, or via email at bringonthecats@gmail.com

It may be a rough time right now, but at BOTC we'll always carry the banner high!

Go State!

sleepwalking

Since your internet radio let you down... I'll fill you in.  The Cats did come out guns blazing in about the first 5 minutes of the game.  After that, it was a different story.  There were a lot of ridiculous turnovers and lazy defensive efforts which led to the Leathernecks getting back within 2.  Hopefully, this is a wake-up call to the players and coaches that you cannot win in this league (or others) with talent alone.  We have got to step up our play defensively and well as settle down and make some shots.  Martin said after the game that he took responsibility for not having the team ready.  For some reason, the Cats had an air about them that made me think that conference championships and trips to the dance were their God-given right.  Blake Young purposely (in my opinion) rolled all over a guy from Western Illinois and got up and threw a fit when he was slapped with a technical because "he didn't do anything."  And- I don't care if you are Michael Beasley, there are limited places for one handed passes in the Big 12.  I know he threw a least 3 in the first half Saturday and one was picked off.  We've got to start playing with our heads if we're going to get this thing going again this year.

Toward the end of the game, they finally started to play a little more solidly.  It's going to take all 40 minutes for some of the opponents we have coming up.  We need Hoskins and Stewart back in full-force.  Their discipline and leadership might be able to turn around the attitude of the team.  Martin can't be afraid to coach where coaching needs to take place.
