After 1
It's 2-0, Cats. Horns went down in order, then Chance Ruffin (UT's starter) was all over the map, hitting three batters (one brought a run in) and walking in another run on four straight.

2 down, still 2-0
Texas got a baserunner in the visitor's half, but fell victim to an inning-ending DP.
K-State went down in order, the last two being strikeouts. Ruffin may be finding his groove after a rough first inning. If so, look out.

Through 3
In the home half, a Jason King dinger puts the Cats ahead 3-0.

Sorry for the stoppage
Texas ended up winning, 6-5, last night. I left for a bbq and crawfish boil and have had no chance to review the stats, so I'll include that later in a series wrap-up post. Too busy with the 1st Amendment right now.
Cats have to get this game today. The forecast doesn't look great (low 60s and 50 percent chance of rain), so we'll hope they get it in.
C'mon State...

Bottom 7th
Cats have plated two runs in the home-half of the seventh to take a 2-0 lead. Still have runners on second and third with two outs, so there's a possibility for more.
It's also starting to sprinkle apparently.

Wildcat Winner
Cats win, 4-1. Daniel Edwards came in to close things out in the bottom of the ninth. Great outing by Brad Hutt to go eight innings and only give up one run.
Rubber match is tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Other Big 12 action today...
Texas A&M leads Mizzou, 11-0, in the seventh.
Nebraska and Baylor are tied, 2-2, in the eighth.
Oklahoma State leads KU, 8-3, in the eighth.
Texas Tech leads OU, 6-2, in the eighth.
K-State came into today's game tied with KU for eighth in the conference at 5-11, half a game behind OU (5-10). If the scores of the OU/TTU and OSU/KU games hold up, we will stand seventh and lead OU by half a game and KU by one full game.

Lance Hogue better settle down
It's 4-1 Texas after one inning. I shouldn't put all the blame on Hogue, as the defense behind him apparently wasn't real sharp, either.
In the bottom of the inning, Justin Bloxom laced a two-out, RBI single to score a run. Good job of chipping away at the lead.

He didn't...
and was pulled after one batter (a walk) in the second. Texas got a run in the top half to restore its four-run lead. Cats couldn't get anything in the bottom half, so it's 5-1 going to the third.

Going to the 4th...
Cats now trail 5-2. Jordan Cruz singled in the bottom of the third, but Dane Yelovich was sent in as a pinch-runner (apparently Cruz is a little gimpy). Two Austin Wood balks later, Yelovich was on third and eventually scored.
Keep chipping away, Cats.

Now 5-3
The Cats keep chipping away, plating one run in the bottom of the fourth to cut it to a two-run lead.
This game is draaaaaaagging along. Not surprising considering there hasn't been a 1-2-3 inning yet.

A quick inning!
Texas went down in order and K-State couldn't get anything going. We're on to the sixth, still 5-3.

Nothing again...
going to the seventh, still 5-3 Texas.

Final: Texas 7, K-State 4
Frustrating loss. A four-run first inning was the difference between a win and a loss for the Cats today. Lance just wasn't ready to go when he took the mound today.
Byron Wiley committed a baserunning gaffe in the ninth that was costly as well when he broke from second on a grounder to short. He was a dead duck at third base.
The good news: Oklahoma State completed a sweep of KU today.
The bad news: Besides the loss, OU beat Tech today. Your current Big 12 standings:
- Texas A&M, 18-3 (have SWEPT five straight series!)
- Nebraska, 15-4-1 (currently trail Baylor in the 5th inning)
- Oklahoma State, 14-7
- Missouri, 9-9
- Texas, 10-11
- Baylor 8-12 (currently lead Nebraska in the 5th inning)
- Oklahoma, 6-11-1
- K-State, 6-12
- Texas Tech, 6-15
- KU, 5-13
We now have a one-game lead on KU and only trail OU by one-half game. Getting into that seventh spot would be huge because that would mean avoiding A&M in the first round of the conference tournament. It looks like A&M doesn't plan on losing anytime soon.
The Cats take to the road the next two weeks for series against Missouri and Oklahoma, before returning to Kansas to take on the 'beakers in the last series of the season. Mizzou is struggling a little right now, OU is one of the teams we're competing with in the standings, and we get two home games against KU. It's doable.
