Baseball Open Thread: K-State vs. Oklahoma State

Who: K-State vs. Oklahoma State
Where: Manhattan, Kan. | Tointon Family Stadium
When: March 28-30 | Friday 6:30 p.m., Saturday 2:00 p.m., Sunday 1:00 p.m.
Media: 1350 KMAN, FSN Midwest (Sunday), Live Stats
I have done a poor job of covering K-State baseball with the end of the basketball season, but things will improve now. It's been a disappionting season so far for the Bat Cats, who stand 10-11 (0-3 Big 12). Things may be looking up after the Cats swept Binghampton at home last weekend and pounded Creighton midweek, 11-1.
Of course, Oklahoma State comes in ranked No. 22, and is 17-6 (3-3 Big 12). The Pokes can mash, leading the conference in team batting (.331 team average), and home runs (by far, 32 total, with second-place Oklahoma and Texas Tech at 23).
You can check out Corn Nation for more on all the Big 12 baseball this weekend. He's not too rosy about our prospects against the Cowboys, but we haven't given him much reason for optimism. A series win would be huge, but I'll settle for avoiding the sweep.
Go Cats!

Ugh
Okie State just hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth to tie the game, 3-3. The Cats aren't doing much hitting, but they've manufactured a few runs. Okie State is swinging at the first pitch a lot, and their lack of patience was playing into Brad Hutt's hands...until the eighth inning.
Cats coming up now in the bottom of the eighth. Would really be nice to get a run or two here.

Clutch hit
Brett Scott with a two-out single brings in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth. Huge.
Daniel Edwards warming in the bullpen. Close it out!

Yes! Wildcat Winner!
Daniel Edwards gives up a walk, but mows down three to win the game. Great job by the Cats tonight, gives us a chance to pick up a huge series win tomorrow.

Saturday
Nate Tenbrink cranks an opposite-field homer to break the scoreless tie. It's now 1-0 Cats in the bottom of the fifth.

Ouch
The four-run fifth wasn't enough as Okie State scored two in the sixth and six in the eighth. K-State couldn't get anything else going and lost, 9-4.
What really stings is the Cats had this game in hand through five innings, but were unable to finish. Let's hope they regroup tonight and can take the series tomorrow.

Yes!
K-State wins, 4-0. Complete-game shutout by Lance Hoge against the powerfully hitting Cowboys. That's also a series winner over the Pokes, and gets the Cats back to 2-4 in league play.
I'll have much more in the next post.
