Rashaad Norwood's Status: Your Comments
I forgot to mention it on the main page last week, but tight end Rashaad Norwood's legal issues were resolved last week, as reported by the KC Star.
Norwood pleaded nolo contendere, or no contest, to three charges, while the fourth charge--obstruction of the legal process--was dropped as part of the plea deal. A 'no-contest' plea does not mean Norwood has admitted guilt, it means he has decided not to contest the charges and will accept whatever the punishment the court decides to impose. In this case, the punishment was probation and a fine.
As of this writing, Ron Prince has not commented on Norwood's status. He has said previously he would await the conclusion of the legal process to decide what Norwood's ultimate fate would be. Obviously, this conclusion does not give us an easy answer as to what Norwood's status should be. He has already missed eight games because of suspension. He accepted responsibility--eventually--for his actions and has accepted his punishment. You can make the argument he should be reinstated this week for the Nebraska game, if he's ready. He has been practicing with the team throughout the suspension.
On the other hand, these were fairly serious charges. Even worse, he was told to stay away from the scene, and he came back only to be arrested a second time. And finally, this hasn't been his first scrape with legal trouble since he came to K-State.
I leave it to you, my wise readers, to debate what an appropriate punishment should be. To comment, create an account using the menu at the top of the screen, on the right. It's free and quick.
Here is a list of options to choose from:
A. Bring him back right now, he's served his time
B. Make him sit the Nebraska game, he deserves a little more
C. Make him sit the Nebraska and Missouri games, then play against Fresno State
D. Boot him, he should be gone for what he's done
E. Other

Boot his ass. Send a message to the rest of the team. It is a privilege to play college football especially in an elite league such as the Big 12. If you are going to act like a delinquent on multiple occasions, go play for Thug U or the Bengals.

Looks like he's back
KC Star is reporting he will make the trip to Nebraska.
I agree, wouldn't be a bad idea to send a strong message to the team. On the other hand, I like the way Prince handled this. A lot of coaches say they're going to "let the legal system run its course" which is cover for "we'll let him play during the season, then when his court date finally rolls around after the season, we'll make him run some extra steps." In this case, it was "well let the legal system run its course," which in practice meant "he won't play until his case is resolved."
