Bob Boozer

K-State legend Bob Boozer died this weekend at age 75. Don't miss Jon's excellent rundown of Boozer's career accomplishments, on and off the court.

Big 12/SEC Agreement

The Big 12 and the SEC have agreed to a postseason meeting between their champions (or runners-up) in the event that those schools are not included in the national playoff. Kevin Haskin weighs in on the new "Champions Bowl."

Dennis Dodd considers this the kill shot to the ACC and Big East's claim to college football relevance.

SB Nation's Jason Kirk likes the new arrangement between the Big 12 and the SEC. But he wants more. Oh, so much more.

K-State Baseball

The Bat Cats took the series from Texas Tech over the weekend. By doing so, K-State advances to the Big 12 Tournament this week in Oklahoma City. Top-seeded Baylor awaits K-State on Wednesday at Bricktown Ballpark.

Big 12 Expansion

With the announcement of the Big 12/SEC partnership, the chatter surrounding Big 12 expansion gained steam over the weekend. This is still far from a done deal, but words like "inevitable" are being used with Florida State and Clemson right now.

Mike Leach

Mike Leach killed a bear. Why? Because he's Mike Leach.

The National Special, 5/21/12: Bob Boozer, 1937-2012

It's almost certain that no more than a handful of people who will read this ever saw Bob Boozer play for K-State. He last suited up as a Wildcat over 53 years ago, almost another era entirely. But the announcement Saturday that Boozer, 75, had passed in his hometown of Omaha as a result of a sudden aneurysm shook Wildcat Nation nonetheless.

It's not hard to explain how important Boozer was to Kansas State. Only once have the Wildcats finished the regular season ranked #1 in the media poll; that was 1959, when Boozer led K-State to a perfect conference record, and were only stopped in the NCAA Tournament by their other primary rival of the era, Cincinnati, and their legendary star Oscar Robertson. The previous year, Boozer and the Cats had marched to the Final Four after capturing the Big Seven title, keeping archrival Kansas and their star Wilt Chamberlain out of the post-season in the process. It was, by any measure, the most successful two-year period in K-State basketball history, and that in and of itself would be enough to mark Boozer as the greatest player in school history. Being the school's only two-time first-team consensus All-American just cements the argument.

As important as he was to us, however, Boozer was pretty important to the entire game of basketball.

According to two people with the strongest ties possible to Florida State's Athletic Department, FSU fully plans on exiting the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State will begin its transition to the Big 12 Conference beginning this June. One source went as far as to say, "at this point the move is inevitable."

Part Deux of Crowdsourcing the 2012 Gridiron Cats.

Re-alignment-apoolazooa continues with tweets about Clemson joining the Big 12, this is your public service announcement for the day. DO NOT BET on Clemson. If you bet on Clemson to cover, they won't. If you bet on Clemson to not cover, they will. So save your money and never bet on Clemson.

The conference schedule for the Cats starts with @Oklahoma, open date, KU at the Bill and @Iowa State. It is nice that the Cats have 2 open weeks between the trips to Norman and Ames, but maybe just maybe the school downriver will make a game of it. I'm not sure of the odds of this happening but stranger things have occurred in life.

The OU game is one that will get everyone's attention early in the season and OU might even have receivers by the 4th week of the season. ISU of course beat OSU last year at home, so that is not going to be an easy game.

Kansas State, which clinched its spot in the tournament field Friday night in a 5-1 victory at Texas Tech, will be either the No. 7 or No. 8 seed, which will be determined following play on Saturday.

The Wildcats are making their sixth straight appearance in the conference championship.

Junior left-hander Joe Flattery tossed Kansas State's first complete game since 2009 as he helped the Wildcats to punch their ticket to the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship with a 5-1 win over Texas Tech on Friday night at Rip Griffin Park.
