This Week in Brief
Game of the Century hangover, teams still fighting for bowl eligibility, someone steals a big recruit from someone else, and we run down the home stretch towards bowl season.
4 State RT Josh Wilson committed to UCLA this week (spoiler alert not the only big win for UCLA this week) choosing to play for the Bruins over the Beavers from Oregon St., and they also picked up 3 star TE Derek Booker. Baylor picked up commitments from 4 star WR Richard Swain, and 3 star HB Ryan Perry. Miss. St was quit on the recruiting front this week, while UCF finally got one on the board with the commitment of 3 star TE Josh Little. Ole Miss continues to recruit well in spite of their record picking up 3 star WR Seth Beard. Texas Tech and Arizona each pulled in a recruit with Tech signing 3 star FS Ryan Thomas, and ‘Zona picking up 3 star HB Napoleon Scott. Continuing the disappointment this week Oregon St. picked up a grand total of zero recruits.
Week 11 in Review
#2 UCLA vs. #3 Oregon St (AKA Game of the Century)
Game of the Century? More like dud of the century. UCLA completely outplayed OSU in all facets of the game, dismantling the Beavers 31-7. WR Roger Murdock and QB Matt Cassel had a field day against OSU’s KU like defense, putting up almost 300 yards in the air, and 4 TD’s. Oregon St. lone score came from a 3 yard burst from (former) Heisman hopeful James Bradford. Hats off to Pervis and head coach Omari Lawrence for their dominant play. (BTW my defensive players are still running stairs)
Ole Miss Vs Arkansas:
Well, PB had a chance against an Arkansas team that had only one victory on the year coming to town. PB promptly took that chance out behind the stadium and shot it. In a bizarre blizzard in Oxford Miss, Arkansas dominated the Rebels winning 28-0. PB’s 4 interceptions helped give the Razorbacks many a short field, as the Hogs only had 257 total yards. PB is going to need some late season magic or she may begin to feel her coaching seat grow hot.
Baylor Vs Oklahoma
Baylor in a shootout, who’d have thunk it! The Bears of central Texas outlasted the Landthieves 42-40 to run their win streak to 9 games. There may have been some sort of injury to QB Kirkpatrick as he only threw for 132 on 15 attempts. His back up George Davis came in and was effective throwing for 134 yards on 8/13 passing for 2 TD’s. Hopefully the injury isn’t to0 serious to the Bears starting QB.
Arizona Vs Texas Tech
Leaders of the Pac 12 south, Texas Tech thought they would stroll into Arizona and walk out with an easy win. Boy were they wrong. Arizona put the smack down on Tech defeating the Red Raiders 35-7. With the victory Arizona holds its conference title fate in their own hands. Win out and they likely face UCLA in the championship game. Lose one down the stretch and a whole slew of Pac 12 South teams could find their way in. Eric McBride was the leader of the Raider beat down throwing for 220 yard and 2 scores on 10/12 passing.
Texas Vs UCF:
Down in Austin the UCF Knights gave it all they had, and came up just a bit short. A back and forth game all night Texas was able to punch in the game deciding TD with 3:41 left in the 4th and a late on-side kick by UCF failed resulting in Texas surviving with a 30-28 win. Sheldon Horton (game version of Blake Bortles) continued his erratic play throwing for 264 yards on 17-26 passing, 3 TD’s, but also 3 INT’s. In a related note on this game Nugget’s
finance fiance is from a UT family and apparently every time UT scored she came in and sang Texas Fight and threw up the hook ‘em sign. While I find this a wonderful act of trolling I imagine it would be very hard to play in that type of environment. My hat’s off to you Mr. Nugget for battling through a hostile environment and almost pulling the upset.
Bye, bye, bye.
Week 12 Previews
#17 Oklahoma vs. UCF
The Knights of Central Florida again travel to God’s own time zone to take on the Landthieves of OU. UCF desperately needs a victory if it wants to have any hope at making a bowl game.
#18 Miss. St. vs. #6 Alabama
In a non-conference match-up of former conference mates, Clanga gets set to take on the visiting Nick Saban’s of ‘Bama. Miss. St. would do well to win this game as it would improve their ranking and possibly set them up for a BCS game.
#14 Baylor vs New Mexico St.
Baylor takes a break from conference play as they host New Mexico St. This should be a cake-walk for the Bears who look to improve their win streak to 10 games.
Ole Miss faces that pesky Bye, and hopes to come out with a win. All kidding aside PB needs to us this week to get her players back on track and try to finish out the season strong.
Colorado vs. Texas Tech
The Buff travel to Lubbock in a familiar match up of former Big 12 teams. Tech should be able to handle their business against the dreadful Colorado football program. Tech needs this win to stay in the Pac 12 South title hunt.
#7 Oregon St. at. Arizona St.
The Beavers look to bounce back after last week’s humiliating loss. The poor Sun Devils await, in what should be an ass-whooping from start to finish. If not the Beavers will be looking at running more stairs instead of celebratory In-n-Out.
#1 UCLA vs Washington
UCLA takes over the top spot in the country this week, and they look to hold that position against a disappointing Washington team. The Husky’s must have this game is they have any hope of making it to a bowl game. UCLA better bring their A games as the Huskies have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Arizona at BYU.
The Wildcats of Arizona travel to Provo, Utah to take on the Mormons of BYU. Arizona needs to win out in the Pac 12 south to clinch the division. Look for them to come out strong against BYU, as ECAW has his team of youngsters playing with a ton of confidence.
