What to Watch Four: West Virginia

I feel like I could make this just one: how much can we play like we did against Baylor this week against the Mountaineers? But, I will challenge myself to get more creative and find something outside of what we saw 2 weeks ago at least once.

  1. How close does the DL perform like it did against Baylor. I believe from what I've seen on film, that WVU's OL is not near the OL Baylor has. I think Britz, Mueller and Reed just might be able to get some consistent pressure on Trickett.
  2. Speaking of 'not near what Baylor has' let's also apply it to the O skill positions. WVU's two headed rushing attack of Dreamus and Sims (sounds like a radio DJ duo) is good, but it's no Lache and Martin (in the evenings?). Should the 'Cats limit these guys like they did the Heisman hopeful, my grin might be as wide as Finney County. Also you got to think the task at hand for the corners this week should not be near as daunting, and all in all I thought they played one of their best games vs Baylor.
  3. Last Baylor game comparison I promise. Even though the substitution pattern was peculiar at times vs Baylor (and after watching the FSMW game replay, I think it had more to do with Sams getting injured 2x that game as opposed to me seeing him get medical attention once at the game), I have to say to date it was probably the best managed to date. I'm of course talking about the 2-qb pattern here, but perhaps the coaching staff is getting a better handle on how to use both. If we can improve in this utilization department as well as both qbs finding success on the ground vs the 3-4 WVU defense, good things will happen.
  4. And although I'd like to talk about the 53,000 giving it all they got, I'd rather talk about what's been desperately missing the past few games: a return game. Hopefully Lockett and Thompson back pay huge dividends before the offense comes out to start each drive.
