In a tradition that is as meaningless as preseason polls, I give you the first week of bowl projections.
Fiesta Bowl: West Virginia
The Mountaineers may be the worse defensive team to win the Big 12... Ever. But when your offense is good enough to average 45 points a game Ron Prince-era defenses might be able to win with it. It may just be one week but the mountaineers have won me over.
For the rest of the bowl projections, including a team not mentioned in my preseason picks, hit the jump.
Cotton Bowl: Kansas State
Despite a shaky week 1, I still think the cats are capable of winning 9-10 games and I look for a much different team to take the field next week against Miami. Collin Klein looked rough, but I think once he plays a few games his new passing game will come out and he'll preform like we all hoped and expected him to.
Alamo Bowl: Texas
Really the opposite of West Virginia, Texas has an elite defense that will keep many a team under 35 points this season, but their offense is still very much a work in progress. But its showing signs of life as their high profile recruits at RB had a very good night. Ultimately if Texas can avoid shootouts they can win quite a few games.
Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (formerly Insight): Oklahoma State
Its really hard to take away much from Oklahoma State's win as they went against the KU of the FCS, but they did show that they could run the ball, very very well, with about 3 guys, so I guess that's something.
Holiday Bowl: Oklahoma
I saw a team with a lot of problems offensively on Saturday night, and I don't think their defense will be nearly as good as last year. I would expect a fourth or worse finish this year as well.
Texas car care Bowl: TCU
Its kinda hard to make a statement about TCU when they haven't even played a game yet... So I won't.
Pinstripe Bowl: Iowa State
Welcome to the picks, cyclones, you earned it. I am calling it right now, Iowa State will get 7 wins this season, Iowa, their week 3 cupcake, Baylor, Texas Tech, KU and upset someone (someone who I hope isn't K-State, OU maybe?).
