#36 Nick Briney
Previous College: Coffeyville Community College
Projection: Scout Team
Nicholas Wade Briney (b. April 15, 1990) redshirted in 2010 after transferring from Coffeyville Community College, where he recorded 56 tackles (37 solo), one pass breakup, one fumble recovery and 0.5 sack.
His best season was 2008, when he saw action in all nine games and earned academic all-conference honors. He suffered from an injury in 2009 and only saw time in four games, which caused a significant statistical drop-off.
Had he stayed healthy, Briney might have attracted more scholarship interest from schools. Instead, we convinced him to walk on, which I count as a pretty good bargain in our favor. You can see his highlights here.
Like Jared Loomis, Briney has a decent chance to occupy a third-string position at linebacker due to his inexperience and our lack of overall scholarship depth/injury history in the position group.
