Introduction to GTCat's Summer Series

Stay connected for news and updates

I would like to introduce a weekly series taking an in depth look at each of the 10 schools in our wonderful league. Now honestly the inspiration for these write-ups came from my first installment: Baylor. It’s been incredible to watch them transform over the last 3 or 4 years or so. Let’s be frank, Baylor’s always been this league’s laughing stock outside of Women’s basketball, track and baseball. But we are honestly living in the golden age of Baylor Athletics. Or at least that’s how I looked at it when I talked to two Baylor women in line at Oklahoma Joe’s the weekend of the Big 12 MBB tournament. And I’ve been wanting to write this ever since, but I held off thinking it would be great to do it for all schools when the summer rolls around. Follow the jump to learn more about my inspiration for this series.

I think Baylor's rise is fascinating. However, I also thought I would start with Baylor for the simple fact that alphabetical order seems the simplest way to pick teams…however I will hold off on K-state until the very end. And if I’ve timed this right, the K-state write-up should be the week before the first press conference prior to the first football game (I seem to remember about 2 weeks out of kick-off, things ramp up again). So with that I introduce a dog days of summer weekly series of our now-seemingly strong conference. Here’s the format I’ve chosen to adopt. I will use a world-golf ranking where I take into account the last two years of each school, and their accomplishments. For the sake of relevancy (and most likely the sports which all schools have in common), I will examine the 2 year windows of each school’s Football, Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Volleyball and Baseball teams. I suppose at the end we could look back on the series and try and rank the teams top to bottom, but I don’t know if I’ll care to do so. So stay tuned as I embark on this journey as there’s a bunch of work to throw down to roll out such pieces of work. Thanks for your attention and I hope to have the first installment done by tomorrow. I'm pretty close already but for the sake of editing I figure I should give it a days rest and re-read it to make it best for all readers.
