Random Offensive Efficiency Stats after 2012 Week 6

So yesterday I posted a few stats in a thread on the Cats number of plays and 3rd down efficiency. I was curious whether the Cats efficiency was just a matter of having fewer 3rd downs due to having run almost the fewest plays from scrimmage in D1A. It wasn't.

Check a few comparisons of top teams of plays/3rd downs and plays/1st downs after the jump...

Obviously an offense is more efficient if it can run more plays without ending up in 3rd down situations. So here's a few teams' plays/3rd down

Baylor 6.56 plays/3rd down
Kansas State 6.41 plays/3rd down
WVU 6.31 plays/3rd down
Okla State 5.6 plays/3rd down
Notre Dame 5.48 plays/3rd down
Oregon 5.26 plays/3rd down
Alabama 5.19 plays/3rd down
South Carolina 5.18 plays/3rd down
LSU 5.02 plays/3rd down
Florida 4.86 plays/3rd down

Next I was curious about teams' plays from scrimmage/1st down

Kansas State 2.658 plays/1st down
Okla State 2.661 plays/1st down
Baylor 2.787 plays/1st down
WVU 2.876 plays/1st down
Oregon 3.003 plays/1st down
Notre Dame 3.136 plays/1st down
Alabama 3.238 plays/1st down
S. Carolina 3.282 plays/1st down
Florida 3.535 plays/1st down

Definitely seems like Kansas State's offense is mighty efficient. They might not run a lot of plays per game, so they may not rack up the video game numbers, but they are able to run drives without getting in to 3rd down situations often and have the fewest plays from scrimmage per 1st down among these teams.
