except
we still won’t have an area for sail-gating like Baylor. :(

So does phase 3 include a moat then?

I didn't see it

Noob level fail...
Seriously you build the castle and forget to include a moat in the plans. Terrible architects designed this thing.

Wow -
now I understand the pricetag. I can’t even find the right adjectives to describe this. What a great thing if we can pull this off. It is just the right look for KSU and who we are. This would improve recruiting several notches.
oh hail the Purple and White
I think that price tag applies to the project as a whole
i bet Phase’s 2 & 3 come in much below that
75 mil for phase 2
project summary on the right side: http://www.kstatesports.com/weststadiumcenter/projectdetails.html
They need to pick up support from the community to launch this phase. Grab 25 million, then bond the rest to speed up the development.
http://igotitgames.com
The arches remind me of the coliseum
and the castle- like towers remind me of Nichols on campus. Great look.
oh hail the Purple and White
This is.....FREAKING AWESOME
Looking at the drawings I see one possible design flaw: the lights they show them only on North and South portions at the top and I’m just not sure that’s gonna be enough. And another thing I wish they would close off the North West corner with seating they could probably up the capacity by around 500, but I would guess the final capacity would be around 52,000. They could and should extend the North windows out to connect with the Vanier Complex and make standing room areas within.
check out the master plan
http://www.kstatesports.com/weststadiumcenter/masterplan.html
http://igotitgames.com
I'm guessing this still isn't the final, final engineering documents. I'm sure the lights thing will be evaluated.
Also, if that’s the worst thing we can say about it, then they knocked this furking thing out of the park.
This is not the final final construction documents.

Pretty happy with the results.
This helps solidify KSU as a big time CFB program for reals. Kicks the crap out of the gridiron club down the river. Sort of looks like what TCU’s new renovations will look like from the exterior. That thing is AWESOME. Ought to be able to bounce some sound off of that real well.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
When I first saw it I thought
ok this is going to be as tall and a little bit longer than the current one, but when I saw the before and after shots the first thing I said was HOLY CRAP this is going to be huge.

Ehh.
It looks nice and all but it is only really increasing the premium seating, i.e. more money for the athletic department, and providing a few more amenities for the commoners. I’d like to see the numbers for restroom and concession expansion, how many are on the main level versus the number for each of the premium levels.
Considering the upper deck on the east site is not sold out often enough, I can understand the desire to increase seats that people will pay extra for since the cheap seats are already overpriced (if they weren’t overpriced they would sell out for all games).
Also I highly doubt the meeting rooms are going to be available to the university, like those in the Student Union and that it would take a dean or the president to actually be able to use one of the meeting rooms.
As for the dining hall in the building. I am very much NOT in favor of this. At Notre Dame, the student athletes live and dine with the rest of the students. Most of the students athletes when I was in school ate at Derby in the training line but they could (and quite a few did) eat with the non-student athletes. The student athlete experience is far from the normal student experience enough as it is.
Overall it looks good but I’m indifferent about it.

I am really impressed with the looks but...
But I kinda feel the same way this isn’t going to really increase the experience of “average” fan. And I also think that the athlete only dining hall is a terrible idea, it starts with this and eventually we’ll have a totally separate school just for athletes.
Maybe we'll progress to an athlete only dorm first...
oh wait, we already did that. Edwards Hall.

I have a cousin that ran cross country and track
And he said that probably 75-80% of the athletes live off campus
Yes, this is probably very accurate.
Most of the athletes staying on campus are the young’uns.
I mean, I only lived on campus for 2 years, and I was not an athlete.

With 20,000+ students on the MHK campus
Very few live on campus.
Marlatt ~600
Goodnow ~600
Haymaker ~600
Ford ~600
West ~300
Moore ~600
Jardine Aps ~600
Strong Complex ~400
That’s only about 4,000 students on campus. There might be a few that still sleep in cars on campus, don’t know.

or are they the "Strong Complex"?

Putnam, Van Zoo and Boyd are the Strong Complex.
Originally they were separate but when it was decided to renovate Van Zile, they were entitled ‘Strong Complex’.

I was a paperboy delivering the Manhattan Mercury to the "Athletic Dorm"
(Edwards Hall) the first two years it was open. Lynn Dickey was one of my subscribers. We defineitly don’t want to go back to that, and I doubt the new dining hall would result in “all meals” being taken there. But it would save a lot of times for the kids, and probably result in more money in their pocket if they had a good place to pick up some meals.
oh hail the Purple and White
If it gives them the opportunity for meals
even if they live off campus, then I don’t see a problem with it.
Do the athletes currently have access to the training table in Derby if they live off-campus?
aka - Hell Dancing
First to identify a TEWWT (so what if it was unintentional)

I think the "saved time" aspect of meals at the Bill is worth it.
I can’t imagine hunting for parking spots around Derby, hence, the kids pick up a burger at where?
oh hail the Purple and White
Same place as everyone else.
I know there are time demands for athletes but it is starting to approach the students-athletes have a completely different experience than ‘normal’ students.
Which is why I mentioned ND, their student-athletes are basically just another student.

I don't think it is purely coincidence
That the schools that get slapped with NCAA sanctions are also the same schools were athletes are treated like gods, it starts in the athletic departments and eventually spreads everywhere and the kids start thinking they deserve the best always, and that is not the K-State and Bill Snyder way of doing things.
Reggie Bush?
OJ Mayo?
Surely you aren’t referring to guys like that?
:)
aka - Hell Dancing
First to identify a TEWWT (so what if it was unintentional)
Those points are true
But I really don’t think having a dining area at the Bill for athletes means that their student experience will be that much different.

What I like is the fact that we are using our donations to improve facilities for the athletes and fans alike..,
while the Beakers are using their donations to pay of ex-coaches and athletic directors.
The next step needs to be a bigger video display and a better sound system.

I’m guessing that our leadership is not seeing a possibility of our being left out in the future.

Phase 4 starts to get a little high class in terms of upgrades.

We finally hired a BAMF visionary AD.
Look how far we’ve come in just a few years. Total financial stability and independence, Phase 1, the BTF, etc.
ADJC is the man to get this done.

Phase 2 leaves one side of the stadium looking completely different than the other. Cosmetics, I know, but nonetheless…

I saw the second half of the Iowa State game at arrowhead from a suit and it was pretty freaking amazing there was nachos, we had our own personal server and the outdoor seating was right next to the field. That has pretty much inspired me to get back to a suit by what ever means necessary.

Has anyone heard the new estimated seating capacity when this is all said and done
I couldn’t find anything about it, and to be honest that worries me a little, like this may reduce seating/increase it none or very little.
There is no way I see that it could
do anything but increase seating. even f you take out those metal “temp” bleachers, you’re still adding in space for hundreds more vertically
Still 50k-ish
there is something in the web stuff about it.

Can't amagine it could expand much.
Not sure there is the population to support much over 50,000 consistently.
Not yet, but wait'll NBAF gets up and rolling.
I bet we might eventually get to 60K with the north side enclosure plan.
I don't think we can sustain more than a 56,000-57,500 seat stadium
in the next 4-12 year window.
"Nor yet in Dell?"
not significant
Will the West Stadium Center increase the overall capacity of Bill Snyder Family Stadium?
We do not project a significant impact to the overall capacity of the stadium by the construction of the West Stadium Center. While a good number of premium seats will be added, the removal of the unsightly metal bleachers currently located at the top of sections 2 and 9 will minimize the overall capacity impact. Season-ticket holders in those sections will have the opportunity to relocate to comparable seating locations.
http://igotitgames.com
I believe between the club level and the suits
It’s anticipated to add about 2,400 seats but I don’t know how much they take away from those aluminum bleachers. I would guess it’s still a net gain.
I’d bet 52,000 permanent seats is about right.
