Dr. Pepper with real sugar.

Look on the label...

…it will tell you where it’s bottled. Some is bottled in Dublin, some is bottled in Temple.

If it has the “Imperial Sugar” logo on it, then it’s legit.

Imperil sugar is on it.

But the only city name is Plano, TX. Think because they lost the law suit they had to change the bottles.

Those 8 oz bottles are awful small and it is kind of expensive but tasty.

by Anon_the_younger on Jan 31, 2012 8:14 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, I forgot Plano has a bottling plant, too.

It’s not “technically” Dublin Dr Pepper, but that’s only because it’s bottled somewhere else. The bottling plants were the same before and after the lawsuit, but now it’s going to be nearly impossible to find the Dublin variety.

But they just had to remove the Dublin part, otherwise I thought things were the same?

I found this in Walmart.

It's a weird deal.

They’ve always bottled Dr Pepper made with Imperial Sugar at locations other than Dublin, but it’s not “technically” DDP unless it’s made in Dublin. But there’s no difference; if it’s made with Imperial Sugar, it’s the same thing.

The difference is a matter of principle. I believe the stuff that’s bottled in Plano or Temple is bottled by “big” Dr Pepper (Dr Pepper/Snapple), while the stuff that’s bottled in Dublin is truly Dublin Dr Pepper. And you’re right, after the lawsuit, there’s no such thing as Dublin Dr Pepper.

by BlackCats on Jan 31, 2012 9:03 PM CST up reply actions

By unplugging it you are letting it get back to a 'fresh' start.

There are capacitors in the device which will hold a charge for a wee bit. 5 minutes and the capacitors should be bled off, so the memory of whatever state is gone. If the device is in a stuck state and you quickly unplug it and plug it back in the capacitors can maintain enough power to stay in the stuck mode.

My understanding of the situation is probably better than the supervisor from a how the device is designed and why you do this step.

You can also use a big hammer to reset the device but then you need lots of glue to put it back to a useable device.

It’s a team with very limited firepower (which we all knew) that doesn’t have any “it” factor to make up for the deficit. They try hard enough, but there is a mix of offensive skill, effort, and moxie it takes to close out games. I think you can be deficient in one area and still be ok most times. You can’t be deficient in two.

Oh … and this is a completely different team than it appeared to be when the non-con was finished. I don’t even recognize it anymore. All you need to say is VO is getting 20 minutes. Doesn’t matter that he’s pretty much playing his best, the fact that he’s out there says it all.

Angel fouling out killed us. As has been stated above, he needs to learn his value to this team (see: OU x2, tonight) and realize how much damage his silly touch fouls are and needs to adjust.

Victor is playing 20+ minutes and JO is playing 3.

Look, I know what BigE’s going to say, and Victor didn’t play horrible tonight (He got 10 boards.), but that’s making a statement about something.

Will is starting and getting heavy minutes right now, and he’s playing absolutely horrible basketball on all fronts. Offense, defense, etc.

My personal feeling is that Frank is trying to lay a foundation this year. If he runs a bunch of people off, it’s a bad plan. If the majority stay, it may work out next year.

I know it sounds like a broken record, coming from me, but

I don’t know how much of a “foundation” he’s laying by playing a fairly high upside 7-footer for 3 minutes, and a very LOW upside walkon for 20+. I can see letting Will play through his struggles, but he’s benching other young guys who are struggling. Looking at this game alone, the sub pattern issue is in stark relief to how Hoiberg used his guys. I just think Frank is buying trouble by using such schizo sub patterns, in that I can’t really blame a kid for not playing well when you’re always looking over your shoulder, afraid of being benched.

by Collin's Bloody Elbow on Jan 31, 2012 10:43 PM CST up reply actions

I don't know, CPW.

I just watched my boys basketball team pull off a huge upset on Friday (62-58) over a team that was faster and more athletic than us. We played with confidence and verve, and refused to give in. And then on Monday, we played a team that had struggled some against the team we had just upset. We should have had a chance to at least be competitive, right? But no, we came out with no confidence, no verve, and got beat 70-36. I guess what I’m saying is this: I don’t think the inherent confidence and self-belief of today’s athletes is as high as you think it is. And, as coaches, if we do things that lower an athlete’s self-confidence on the court, we’re doing them a disservice. I think the playing time thing does just that.

Vic obviously edged JO in effort and intelligence today.

I don’t think it’s an issue of how many minutes Vic got – he had a pretty damn good second half. It’s an issue of how few minutes JO got. Yes JO was bad in those three minutes, but why sacrifice our best chance to stop Royce’s unimpeded drives to the rim just because the guy starts slow? I'm definately not saying fire him after 1 bad year but lets be reasonable here.

He just got a big raise last year, a new floor in Bramlage, and a $20m practice facility. Its year 4 and he still doesn’t have this program up and running smoothly.

by rich04 on Jan 31, 2012 10:48 PM CST up reply actions

He doesn't?

Frank Martin has taken K-State to an Elite Eight and twice has taken it to the round of 32. One season ended in an NIT bid. This season, which reasonably was a rebuilding season after losing K-State’s career-scoring leader and a pretty good post player in Curtis Kelly, it looks like he’s going to field an NCAA bubble team.

Are there areas where Frank can learn and improve? Yeah, for sure. I think at some point he has to stop running off so many players and at some point he has to start using a more regular substitution pattern. But just because it’s not always pretty doesn’t mean it hasn’t been pretty damn successful.

Must mean that they are not for the basketball team run by Frank Martin. I'm sure they'll work on that in practice.

And I won’t argue that the refs are the reason they lost a 14-point lead. But that no-call on McGruder was inexcusable. It’s like the no-call on Myck Kabongo at the end of the Missouri/Texas game last night. You have to make those calls, even late in the game.

Yeah that was the whip cream on horse caca...

for that lousy excuse of a second half of officiating. Angel dives for a loose ball and barely touches an ISU player who does not have possession and is whistled for a foul. Irving secures the ball before going out with 3 ISU players raking him across his arms, head, hands, you name it and not one call. I counted 3 distinct fouls on McGruder during the last 5 minutes including the glaring final one and not one whistle.

Eight of the fourteen points were made up by poor defense on K-State. The rest can be accredited to poor officiating on both ends of the court either by calling a ludicrous charge on Angel for his fifth or the ticky tack foul they called on Diaz that sent ISU to the line. The Big 12 crew, as we have all grown to know, was inconsistent at best, and derelict at worst this evening.

On the bright side,

our freshmen showed up in a big way and should improve from this experience.

Gip was a beast, Diaz is getting better by the minute, and Angel is already probably the second most important guy on the team after Rod.

It would be great if we could grow AND win, but would rather lose while grooming future teams than with junior and senior bums.

I now accept Jamar as what he is and stop expecting an all-Big 12 player, but the lack of success (relative to what we could have – being 19-2 with closing out games we were leading late) this season to me can be pegged on the lack of development of JO and Will. I expected much more out of both of them than what we’ve gotten.

Yup.

Jones is by far the best Juco guy Frank has brought in, yet he still refuses to play him.

Meanwhile guys who can create offense – Nick Russell and Devon Peterson – something this team desperately needs, are run off so their replacements can provide exactly zero minutes.

I am a huge Frank supporter, but this is the one thing he does I just can’t stand.

This I agree with

Frank always talks about what a young team we have. Well, yeah, Frank, you run off one or two players every year, so it’s kind of hard to have a bunch of seniors.

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Really, what the hell? I check the score at intermission, we’re up 10 with 10 to play. What the fuck happened?

Oh, and I saw someone up there talking about Franks job status. First of all, let me give you a heartfelt FUCK YOU. You have no idea what you’re talking about. If you won’t even put in the time to learn how to spell your AD’s name right, why should we take any argument you could possibly make regarding HCFM’s job status seriously? Second, go read the last post game. Do your fucking homework before you come in here with your extremist bullshit. The guy has more than earned the right to coach this team for the foreseeable future. You might not agree with his methods, but until he outright fails at coaching, or fails at represenrting the university, he’s our coach. He’s done neither. Period.

Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

Look, CBE, you and I may disagree on how Frank handles situations, and I can live with that.

But I I won’t sit here idly while someone thinks it’s prudent to issue the ultimatum of “NCAA or Bust”. It just isn’t right. That’s exactly the kind of negative sentiment I see growing from people that haven’t played the game at this level, haven’t coached the game, and just want to say something to sound like they know what they’re talking about. I respect you – you coach. I’ve both coached the game and played at this level. Frank is a good coach. I want to keep Frank here. We all should. But these negative sentiments get whipped into a fervor, and that’s how coaches get run off. I won’t let that happen.

I just don't think an f-bomb laced rant at those who disagree is the best tack to take.

I fully understand how emotional people get about the greatest game ever invented. I get that way too. But big-time college athletics is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately?-type of game now, for better or worse. That means that when a coach makes some questionable decisions (which Frank has done), and the losses pile up somewhat (which is happening), the naysayers will have their day. To a certain extent, I’ve been one of them, as I just don’t see the logic behind some of his moves at all. But I don’t think he deserves to lose his job, or to even have the threat of that at this point. Now, if we go completely in the tank, and finish off our last nine conference games at 2-7 or 1-8 or something, then we might need to reevaluate that. But for now, I agree with you that talk questioning Frank’s job security is without merit.

I have no interest in starting a fight. Like I said, I respect CBE, he's worn the shoes.

And I’ll try to keep my tirades to a minimum. But there is no place, no excuse for ultimating HCFMs job right now. I agree…if we manage to finish the conf slate at say 6-12, or 5-13, we can have that conversation then. But this team needs SUPPORT, not skepticism behind what is truly warranted.

Are we having fun yet?

And you’re right, I wasn’t able to find any reespectacle programs that go 12 deep. Furthermore, I’ll buy the consistent minutes breeds consistency theory, especially in the case of JO and Shane. I do think they both need time to “warm up” per se, and RA eliablre to do some boneheaded things untile they’re really in the flow and dynamic of the game. Can’t say I’m a microwave, either…there’s times I won’t do anything productive until five minutes have gone by.

But then again, I’m one of the best players on the floor, so I’m allowed that kind of latitude ;)

Not that this is a complete "apples to apples" comparison, but

when I was working as an assistant coach, at a 3A private school Texas powerhouse back in the early 00s, we played 10 guys regular minutes. That’s as deep as I’ve ever seen a good team at high school or above go. And we did it simply because we played so fast that we needed five guys on the bench who could literally do a hockey-style “line-shift”-type of thing. Our starters would go balls-to-the-wall for 4 minutes or so, sit for 2:00 or so, and then go back in for the last 2:00-2:30 of the quarter. Of course, when we had foul trouble, we’d adjust things a bit, but on the whole, we ended up with five guys playing about 22-25 minutes/game (out of 32) and another five that played from 8-12 minutes. And we only did that for one season, when we had the “horses” to make it work.

by Collin's Bloody Elbow on Feb 1, 2012 12:54 AM CST up reply actions

I can see that.

That’s typically the way I would expect a 10 deep team to operate.

I really don’t think we know who the best nine are on this team. I couldn’t tell you with any certainty, and I’ve watched all but the first 30 minutes of the UT game, and this game tonight. We’ve got too many interchangeable parts past the top 6 or 7.

Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

I think that's when a coach just needs to make a decision.

In the interests of building a chemistry between the 8-9 guys who know that they are going to see the floor for X number of minutes each night.

by Collin's Bloody Elbow on Feb 1, 2012 1:03 AM CST up reply actions

My overwhelming question is why are we suiting 16 players?

What are Watson and Omari doing other than taking up space on the bench?

Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.
Twitter - @BigE_29er

by TheBigE on Feb 1, 2012 1:07 AM CST up reply actions

And, for me, our 8-9 guys would be:

G=Angel (30 mpg, depending upon foul trouble)
G=Will (30 mpg)
F=Rod (30 mpg)
F=Jamar (30 mpg)
C=Gip (25 mpg)

Bench:
1st G = Tay (15-20 mpg)
1st F/C = JO (15-20 mpg)
8th man = Shane (15-20 mpg)
9th man = Adrian (~10 mpg)

by Collin's Bloody Elbow on Feb 1, 2012 1:11 AM CST up reply actions

So Angel gets 15 mpg because he likes bumping people at 40 ft, and Jeremy Jones gets the remaining 15 minutes? ;)

I agree, but you can’t deny that Vic plays with heart – something this team needs – and Jeremy Jones, when healthy, is a viable option at guard. How do you leave them on the bench for Diaz or Shane? And that’s why you’ve got 11 players right now, methinks.

Oh, come on now. That's just stupid.

I think Diaz's upside gives him the nod.

Same for Shane over JJ. As for Vic’s “heart”, I’d like to see it in MUCH shorter bursts, just to give the guys a jumpstart. Playing him 20+ minutes is asking too much of a guy that’s little more than Hrbec in short pants. (That’s not meant as an insult to either guy. I like them both, they’ve just got more heart than talent.)

I don't disagree with you at all.

No one knows what happened … since I could not see the game, all I could tell is we lost the lead. Before when the Cats have lost leads this year, it has been because the defense was sloppy and the offense was stagnant so I would suspect the same here.

As I’ve stated before this year, I don’t think I would want to coach a D1 program with the amount of goofy pressure that is put on you. I like Coach Martin especially the way he is able to change as needed. I have no idea about his substitution patterns nor why he is playing certain guys for certain minutes, and yes I would like to know but so far none of the media are thinking these are good questions to ask.

I’ve not coached except for a developmental team and right now I think Coach Martin is a good fit for K-State, that might change in a year or 2 but nothing I’ve seen since he’s started has caused me to think less of him as a coach at this point. I’d play for him if I was in college.
